The golden couple of Italian lyric returns to Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago (Italy) to accompany the film director Ettore Scola on his debut in the world of opera.
The soprano relationship Daniela Dessi and the tenor Fabio Armiliato with the Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago comes from afar. Gone are unforgettable shows, like Madama Butterfly that celebrated the centenary of the premiere of the popular title or the most recent production of La fanciulla del West, a tribute to 100 years of this opera set in the Californian Far West. This summer both will participate in one of the most anticipated artistic events, filmmaker Ettore Scola's debut as an operatic stage director, an icon of European cinematography. The chosen work is La Bohème, one of the most popular of the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, Unmissable work every year in the summer festival that bears his name and that takes place in Torre del Lago (Tuscany, Italy). In this new production that will undoubtedly become one of the great events of the summer months, Daniela Dessì recovers the role of the tender Mimì, one of the roles that has given her the most triumphs in her career - even the legendary Carlos Kleiber directed her in this role and her recording, under the baton of Gianliugi Gelmetti, is a reference-, this time with his partner in real life, the tenor Fabio Armiliato in the role of Rodolfo, the bohemian poet who falls madly in love with the adorable seamstress and who has sung in eight different productions in recent years.
For Armiliato it is an occasion “only, Since working alongside a big screen master is an honor”, points tenor, who was the protagonist of one of the last films of the American director Woody Allen, To Rome with love (2012). “Back to the Festival in its number edition 60 is another of the attractions of this proposal”, Armiliato continues,”especially if we are talking about an opera as popular and loved by audiences around the world as La Bohème.”. Daniela Dessi, a born Puccini- and Puccini Prize in 2001-, has interpreted practically all the heroines conceived by Puccini for musical theater, and is enthusiastic about this new adventure: “Returning to Mimì is always a pleasure. He is a fascinating character and singing him on the large outdoor stage of Torre del Lago is a challenge and an honor., especially now that we will work alongside the great and admired Ettore Scola”.
Winner of the most important film awards on the continent, Scola has been a four-time Hollywood Oscar nominee and now, by the hand of Dessì and Armiliato, goes to the opera, a path that many of the great film and theater directors have followed in recent decades.
