
After his recent visit to the Palau de la Música in Barcelona last February, the well-known German quartet returns to our country to visit the cities of Bilbao and Madrid. The days 4 Y 5 March will offer three concerts within the 22nd edition of the Música-Musika Festival organized by the Bilbao City Council.
With Literature as the main Leitmotiv of this edition under the title ‘Notak & letters', the members of the Mandelring will go on stage at the Euskalduna Palace to present three original programs with works that explore the dialogue between composers and writers from different eras: he Quartet No. 1 “Sonata Kreutzer” by Leos Janácek based on Tolstoy's "The Kreutzer Sonata", he Quartet No. 1 in E minor “Of my life” de Bedrich Smetana, he Quartet No. 3 by Benjamin Britten and the Quartet No. 2, that Janácek titled “Intimate Letters”, because in it he condensed without words all the missives that he had written to Kamila Stösslová for eleven years, the last and greatest love of his life. further, will interpret the famous Quartet No. 14 in D minor D 810 "Death and the maiden" Schubert, inspired by the Lied namesake that the Austrian composer wrote about a poem by Matthias Claudius.
