Placido Domingo returns to Real

Plácido Domingo returns to Real with Iphigénie en Tauride

The next day 13 January the Teatro Real will premiere Iphigénie en Tauride, with musical direction by Thomas Hengelbrock, stage direction by Robert Carsen and with an exceptional cast led by Plácido Domingo, Susan Graham y Paul Graves.
Composed by Gluck, with a libretto by Nicolas-François Guillard and based on the homonymous tragedies by Claude Guymond de La Touche (1757) and Euripides (c 412), premiered at the Academie Royale de Musique in Paris on 18 May 1779.
At the press conference for the presentation of this opera, both directors made reference to the great drama of this work, in which music and text are combined in an exceptional way not yet surpassed (Hengelbrock), in which the voice and the body are used by Gluck to represent dramatic elements (Carsen).
Placido Domingo, great protagonist of this press conference in which there was no lack of references to his next birthday and the tribute that will be held at the Real, defined Iphigénie en Taurade as an extraordinary surprise, in which the contrast of harmonies and appoggiaturas make it continue to be a modern opera.
In Susan Graham's opinion it is a story of "love, pain and emotion” and this production goes straight to the heart.
this production, who will then travel to the New York Metropolitan, will be performed until the day 27 January and will be broadcast live on Radio Clásica on the day 25 and deferred the 2 February in the framework of the Opera Oberta program.
