Currentzis not direct Tristan und Isolde at the Royal

Currentzis

Teodor Currentzis, who has recently directed, with great success, the functions of The Indian Queen at Teatro Real, will not be able to take over the musical direction of Tristan and Isolde, for health reasons. will be replaced by Marc Piollet, who is currently in the Theater directing L'elisir d'amore.

The famous production of Tristan und Isolde, with stage director Peter Sellars and video art of Bill Viola, will be offered at the Teatro Real between the days 12 January 8 February, headed by Robert Dean Smith (Tristan) Y Violeta Urmana (Isolde), next to Franz-Josef Selig (Rey brand), Jukka Rasilainen (Kurvenal), Nabil Suliman (To lie) Y Ekaterina Gubanova (Brangäne) in leading roles.

Very different from L'elisir d'amore is the perspective from which Wagner address this legend. In his hands it becomes a cornerstone of musical innovation., revolutionizing the musical history of Europe. But nevertheless, this heartbreaking love passion has seldom found an adequate parallelism between music and stage. the challenge is difficult: visualize the abysses and the ecstasy of the soul captive by the exterminating fire and the deadly coldness of a cosmic love. As we are often moved by the Flemish Primitives –a good example of this is the Descent from the Cross by Roger Van der Weyden del Prado–, Bill Viola –who is currently preparing a medieval triptych with current techniques for Saint Paul's Cathedral in London– succeeded. Hence, this unique production of Tristan has become an object of worship, conquering the whole world.

Tristan und Isolde starts in 2014 a new cycle at the Teatro Real, since from 1 january starts, officially, and at the head of the artistic direction, your new manager, Joan Matabosch, from the same stall at the Gran Teatre Liceu in Barcelona.
